September in Review

September in Review

September 2010 has come and gone. Up here in Seattle it was a beautiful month to be outdoors and enjoying the natural resources that this area has to offer. Its’ claimed this was the coolest September on record since Eisenhower was in office (or something like that), but we wouldn’t know since we’ve been here only a year. We took advantage of the weather and did a few hikes in the area

Fun with Glow Sticks

Fun with Glow Sticks

Ethan has officially been introduced to glow sticks! I found a stock pile of them last weekend in my workshop. They were saved from when I was a wildland firefighter and I carried a handful in my line gear for night operations. But those days have passed and they’ve collected dust for the last 7 years. This evening I decided to pull my pile of glow sticks to show Ethan the joy they can bring. Game on.

Chicago.

Chicago.

Laura and Autumn had the pleasure to join me on a business trip to Chicago last week. After being with FEMA for a little over year, spending 50 nights on the road, and traveling almost 40,000+ air miles, it was nice to have family come along for the ride. Chicago was our destination because the annual FEMA Mitigation Planners Workshop was held here this year.  This was my second visit to Chicago this year, Laura and Autumn’s first ever, and it was a great visit to the Windy City.

“But wait! Where was Ethan?”

Facebook and You

Facebook and You

After taking some time away from Facebook a couple months ago (and coming back), I realized some interesting trends from Facebook users. Basically, email is nonexistent for personal use, birthdays don’t exist outside of Facebook, and no one comments on other websites outside of Facebook. Do these trends demonstrate the new norm in today’s society, or perhaps the new norm among Facebook users that are on my Friends list? Honestly, I’m not sure. This is why I’m posting my observations to hear what you have to say.
