Easter Weekend is no time to sit around

With a foreseen break in our dreary weather this weekend, and knowing  it was Easter, we planned for a few outdoor activities to catch some Vitamin D.

Saturday

Mountlake Terrace held its annual Easter egg hunt for kids on Saturday morning. It was perfect morning to be out looking for eggs because the sun was shining and the temperature was pleasant. We walked over to the local park a few minutes before it started to find a baseball field full of children. We were a bit surprise but excited to see the community to come out and support the event. Ethan and Autumn participated in the 0-3 age category and were very successful. Ethan’s strategy, unbeknownst to us, of running to the far end of the field when the signal to go was given proved to be a good one. As other kids stopped and competed to pick up the first eggs they saw, our little guy was enjoying filling up his basket with a couple children for about a minute before the massess arrived. Following the event Ethan enjoyed checking Mountlake Terrace Fire Engine 19 and getting a few more treats from the Easter Bunny. Ethan was quick to tell his Mom that, “It’s not the Easter Bunny, it’s a just a man in a bunny suit.” I think the converse the bunny was wearing gave it away, or Ethan doesn’t belive in 6 foot tall bunnies.

After the Easter egg hunt, we dropped off a few used books at the library in exchange for a few new ones as part of the Mountlake Terrace Library’s Earth Day activities. We then topped off the kids stomachs with a delicious picnic lunch at a nearby park before walking back home.

After naps, the kids were outside the rest of the day playing, swinging and digging in the backyard. We started to pull out lawn furniture from the shed in hopes of a warmer Spring. It’s wishful thinking but it can’t hurt. The evening ended with Laura and I enjoying ‘Sweet Home Alabama’.

Sunday

Ethan woke up Sunday morning at the early hour of 6am. He eagerly got us out of bed so he could go and see if the Easter Bunny came last night. Shockingly it did. A basket of a few sweets along with a butterfly net, Candy Land board game, soccer shinguards and socks, and a butterfly handbroom brought smiles to Ethan and Autumn. After an impromptu Easter egg hunt in our backyard (is it wrong to drop the eggs off after Ethan leaves an area he just scoped out?) we packed up the kids and headed to Deception Point State Park.

Deception Point is located on Whidbey Island, just south of Anacortes and along the border of Skagit and Island Counties. It is a beautiful location offering hikes along the beach and through old growth forests. We spent a few hours enjoying the area. Ethan explored, collected sticks and rocks (which are dropped off before we leave the park), wrote his name in the sand, and asked a ton of questions. Autumn, for the first time, walked around when we stopped for our snack breaks. She hasn’t been able to do this on previous hikes so this was nice to see her explore on her own. We only explored a small section of the park and look forward to returning again.

We continued south on Whidbey Island where we enjoyed our Easter Taco Bell lunch before catching the Mukilteo ferry boat. This was the first time we drove the car on the ferry and it delighted Ethan quite a bit. I’m sure Autumn would’ve loved it too but she slept the entire drive home. It was a pleasant 7 hours exploring new areas in the Puget Sound.
